Simon was born in Cheshire in 1955. He trained as an architect in London, qualifying in 1980. He practised for 12 years in Sheffield before moving to Cornwall in 1992 in order to paint full-time.
He says – “I seem to have had a pencil in my hand most of my life. Even as a child I was always drawing and now, if I’m out walking, there’s always a sketchbook in my pocket. Referring to a drawing is a much richer source of information and inspiration than a photograph. When I look at a drawing I can remember the day I made it vividly and it reveals, not the subject, but my response to it.”
