Mike Bromage

Mike found an interest in drawing at a young age after being inspired by the illustrations of Quentin Blake and Tove Jansson and after seeing Picasso’s “The Three Dancers”, began painting. In 2008 he began working with potter Richard Godfrey at his workshop in Devon.

Approaching ceramics as a painter, he started working with slips and was amazed by the process of slab building. Mike says – “The beautiful thing about working with clay is the material itself, the firing and decorating processes and the knowledge that everything you do to a pot is totally inconsequential until it comes out of the final kiln, alive and transformed into something that in a way you have no control over.”

Mike graduated from the University of Plymouth in 2010 and was awarded the Ben Hartley Prize for his final degree show work (Through trees). He started his own pottery studio in 2016.
